Source

Steven Curtis Chapman announces release of 'Beauty will rise'

Steven Curtis Chapman will release his new album, Beauty Will Rise, in November, a collection of 12 new and profound songs created over the past 15 months during the walk through the darkness of the loss of his daughter Maria in May 2008. The album is described as “Part lament, part praise, part grief, part hope, part wrestling, part pondering, hopeful, raw, personal and honest recording that is likely the most important of his already incredible 20-plus year ministry.”

Christian rock worship band MercyMe was involved in an accident in the early morning hours of Aug. 8, when their tour bus collided with a car in Fort Wayne, Ind. Two passengers in the car and the driver's unborn baby were killed in the crash; the driver died a few days later. No one on the tour bus was injured. According to police reports, the bus was proceeding through an intersection on a green light at about 1 a.m. when the driver of the car turned into the bus’s path. The band asks for continued prayers for the families of the victims.

Singer/songwriter Jason Gray breaks a two-year writer’s block with his new album, Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue. Blending elements of folk, alternative rock, and R&B, the album features Gray’s soothing vocals and deep insight into life and faith. “I think we’re often in danger of reducing Christianity to information, a series of facts that you must know and believe in order to be saved,” Gray says of his song “More Like Falling In Love.” “It seems obvious, but I need to be reminded that a relationship with Jesus Christ should look less like intellectual assent and more like falling in love.” Everything Sad Is Coming Untrue was set to release Sept. 1.

The Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee recently announced that musicians Amy Grant and Vince Gill have been named the recipients of the 2009 Jack C. Massey Leadership Award. This award is presented biennially to recognize outstanding community leadership and considerable contributions to numerous causes that improve the lives of middle Tennessee’s citizens.

International youth outreach organization Teen Mania Ministries has announced the launch of a new worship label, EE-Taow Records. The label will introduce its flagship artist, Atlanta-based worship band Unhindered, with the release of their national debut Be on Oct. 20. The label was founded to develop the next generation of worship musicians and songwriters and provide its young audience with an authentic, relevant worship experience.

Dream Center advocates Press Play have had early success with the release of their debut album, Life Is Beautiful. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Christian chart and No. 45 on the Billboard Top 200 chart while peaking at No. 3 on the iTunes Top Christian and Gospel charts. The band has already performed before millions nationwide and was recently featured as a musical guest on the “The Today Show,” FOX News Strategy Room, and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Seventeen magazine. Lead vocalist Dave Hanley is recovering from a broken back and other injuries sustained in a recent auto accident, but that hasn’t stopped the band; they haven’t cancelled a tour date, and Hanley is making progress toward recovery.

Fans of Diamond Rio will get an intimate look at the band with the release of the book, Beautiful Mess, this September. The book offers behind-the-scenes access to the band members’ personal lives, including health scares, freak accidents and how contrasting personalities formed a partnership that’s evolved into one of country music’s most successful bands. The book coincides with the release of the band’s 11th album, The Reason.

Francesca Battistelli continues to make significant headway with her acclaimed debut, My Paper Heart. The hit radio single, “I’m Letting Go,” was heard in the promotions for the movie “Julie & Julia,” featuring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, and her current radio single, “It’s Your Life,” was heard during the season finale of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Christian hip-hop pioneer KJ-52 ventures into more uncharted territory than usual with his upcoming release, Five-Two Television, releasing Sept. 22. “I wanted to create a record that’s almost like a TV station,” KJ-52 explains about the album’s packed, 24-track menu. “The record’s really about embracing where culture’s at and the way we relate to each other because of it, so I’m running toward it and using it and letting people see themselves in it.” Amid the music, for example, is a four-act spoken-word biography starring a fictional character named Chris Carlino. Carlino represents who KJ-52 might have become had it not been for a life-changing decision at age 15 to follow Christ. In a sense, KJ-52 says, the songs themselves can be viewed as commercials for what can only be described as The Chris Carlino Story. Fans that purchase Five-Two Television will also get access to a downloadable version of the album designed specifically for them to give away. For more information, visit www.kj52.com.

Artist/songwriter Shelly E. Johnson from Franklin, Tenn., and Jake Brothers from Indianapolis, Ind. were the big winners at the 2009 Immerse Conference, formerly known as GMA in the Rockies. The 24-year-old Johnson was named GMA’s Artist Solo 2009 for contestants in the 13- to 24-year old category and also won a development deal with Centricity Records. Brothers was the recipient of GMA’s “Disney’s Night of Joy Best of Show Award,” and he also took home the award for best band with his group, the Jake Brothers Band. Holly Starr, from Quincy, Wash., was recognized by Compassion International for the ministry emphasis of her music. Joshua Johnson, from Los Angeles, was the winner in the American Bible Society Scripture Song amateur class for his song, “Wait.”

Source

Debut Single From Steven Curtis Chapman's Beauty Will Rise

The debut single from multi-platinum selling artist Steven Curtis Chapman’s upcoming project Beauty Will Rise, “Heaven Is The Face,” has been welcomed with open arms. Available digitally on September 8, the single released to radio August 21 and has already pulled at the hearts of many. Thirty-one stations have added the single already, quickly finding that it is resonating with all who hear it, offering light in a dark place:

"Heaven Is The Face” is a song that takes you a little deeper each time you hear it,” says Tulsa, OK, KXOJ Program Director, Bob Thorton. “The first time all I thought about was Steven and Maria. The second time all I thought about was the door of Heaven and the mystery of not being able to see the other side. The third time and each spin since, it's become a more personal song that takes me into simultaneous thanks for the present and worship for what is to come. This is raw, honest depth from our greatest writer."

“The lyrics are specific to the Chapman story, but the Hope shared is something we can all cling to,” says Sandi Brown, General Manager of JoyFM in St. Louis.

Outside of radio circles, the media are also vocalizing their support for the song and Chapman family:

"Heartbreak and hope are powerfully intertwined in the lyric of this incredible song. Chapman has always had a gift for sharing how real and vibrant his faith is through his music, and even after the loss of his precious daughter, that faith remains and continues to inform his artistry. I can think of no more powerful testimony."

<a dancin'
"Oh please, daddy , please!"

Chorus:
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Matt and Beth Redman, Tim Hughes, Paul Baloche, Israel Houghton, Graham Kendrick, Andy Park, Stu Garrard and Martin Smith from Delirious?
(Littlehampton, England) December 3, 2007 â€" Compassionart is hosting internationally recognized songwriters Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech, Matt and Beth Redman, Tim Hughes, Paul Baloche, Israel Houghton, Graham Kendrick, Andy Park, Martin Smith and Stu Garrard (Delirious?), at a gathering in Perthshire, Scotland Jan. 7 â€" 11. 2008. The songwriters’ unprecedented goal is to collectively write 10-12 songs that will be given to the world not just to sing, but to raise money for the relief of suffering around the planet. Together these songwriters account for at least 42 million albums sold, 82 No. 1 songs, nine GRAMMY Awards, 110 Dove Awards, two Stellar Awards, two American Music Awards, and 98 current CCLI Top 500 songs sung by millions in churches around the world. Now, for the first time ever, the songwriters offer their time and talents with one voice to make a stand.
One hundred percent of the proceeds derived from the songs written at the Compassionart retreat will go directly to charity. One half of the monies will go to the songwriters’ charity of choice, and the other 50% will go to a charitable project agreed upon by all the songwriters involved.
“Over the last few years I have had the privilege of traveling to some of the poorest parts of the world and seeing first hand the plight of humanity,” says Martin Smith, Delirious? frontman and Compassionart founder who is organizing the retreat along with his wife, Anna. “As a song writer and a person with a microphone I made a promise to try and do something about it. What better than to call on my friends and do something together. To be people that can make a change rather than just singing about it.”
Remarkably, the songwriters, publishers, managers, copyright institutes and agents involved have all waived their rights and are donating their efforts on this project to Compassionart, a charity based in Littlehampton, England and dedicated to seeing works of art generate income for the poorest of the poor. And this is not a one-time offering or marketing ploy, but an ongoing effort for charity derived over the songs’ lifetimes.
“They have all waived their rights to see something historic happen- the music business coming together for something great, greater than any individual could achieve,” continues Smith.
The participating songwriters echo their enthusiasm for Compassionart and what it hopes to accomplish:
“I am so grateful to be a part of Compassionart and extremely optimistic of what will come of it. The motivation of this week and all involved so resonates with my heart in regards to the poor. Isaiah 58 is the passage that I go to now more than any other, knowing that if we feed the poor, satisfy the needs of the oppressed and reach out to the downtrodden, the Lord will indeed make His face shine upon us.”
-- Michael W. Smith
“I’m eagerly anticipating this time! Coming together for this time of writing with the purpose of helping the poor and oppressed is an honor. Whenever I’ve had a chance to be with orphans around the world, what many would call the least of the least, God makes it so clear to me that He has not forgotten them, that He is for them and calls them His dearly loved children. I’m praying that this time and collection of people that Martin and Anna Smith have helped call together will be greatly used by God for His glory. And I’m very hopeful that the songs He gives will draw attention to and help those desperately in need.”
-- Steven Curtis Chapman
“I know that Compassionart is in the heart of God. Worship and Justice has always been a heaven combination, and Mark and I are completely committed to Martin and Anna and their passion to see the fulfillment of this dream come to pass.
This program allowed Santa Photo mall patrons to give a dollar or more to the Shaohannah’s Hope Foundation, a grant program started by five-time Grammy award winner, Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife Mary Beth. 100% of every dollar received was given to the foundation that gives grant to families who want to adopt and need financial assistance.
After an overwhelming response last year, in funds raised and in testimonies from the parents who received the children into their homes, this initiative has been renewed and developed further for 2007.
There are now two donor levels, as last year, donors who provide $1 will receive a personalized letter from Santa sent to their children via email on Christmas morning through www.myownsantaletter.com.
Additionally this year, these friends who partner will also receive a Show Hope button. And new for 2007, donors who provide $5 or more will receive the personalized letter from Santa and a Show Hope memory bracelet. 100% of the donations collected will be gifted to the foundation again this year. On set and cash register signage will remind the patrons of this worthy effort, and we h0pe you’ll consider being a part.

SCC 2006 News

In 2006, Chapman went on tour to several Asian countries.
